I’ve been going over the schedule for Uptime Institute Symposium recently, and have to say this year’s content will blow you away. Here are the top ten reasons you need to attend:
1. Who’s-who of Web-scale data center operators: Facebook? Yahoo? Google? Microsoft? eBay? AOL? Yep. All there, to discuss how their organizations are literally creating groundbreaking new data center designs in real-time.
2. Experts from the trenches: Data center managers from Fortune 500 companies, large financial firms, and the colocation space will be presenting on the top issues facing data center managers today.
3. Biggest networking opportunity in the data center industry: There are over 120 distinguished speakers at this event, including the brightest minds from the data center vendors, design firms and industry organizations.
4. Unmatched experience and expertise: Join Uptime Institute Founder Ken Brill, Dr. Bob Sullivan, Uptime Institute Executive Director Pitt Turner for master classes, in-depth tutorials and perspective from decades in the data center industry. Learn from the Uptime Insitute’s global Network of data center owners and operators. The data center industry’s elite operations user body, the Uptime Institute Network, provided industry guidance and trending data on issues including the EPO button, bio-diesel effects on backup generators, and benchmarking information. Network Global Head Rick Schuknecht will present on these issues.
5. Capacity planning with the Digital Infrastructure Roadmap: Is your organization at risk of running out of data center capacity? Are you considering moving compute loads to the cloud, increasing virtualization investments, evaluating co-location options, or planning a new data center? Are you responsible to deliver this message and formulate a strategic plan? You need to attend Uptime Institute’s presentation on the Digital Infrastructure Roadmap.
6. You will not see a better discussion of containerized data centers anywhere: Join Tier1 Research’s Jason Schafer as he presents his latest research on containerized data centers, followed by a panel including: Dean Nelson who recently completed a major containerized data center RFP process for eBay, Patrick Yantz, who deployed Microsoft’s containerized data center design in Chicago and now designs next-generation modular data centers for SGI.
7. Data Center Infrastructure Management explained: The 451 Group’s Andy Lawrence will present his latest research on DCIM tools. Can you use DCIM in your data center? Who are the key providers, and what are the criteria for vendor evaluation? See our DCIM video for more info.
8. Phased and Multi-tier data center designs: You literally can’t afford to miss our in-depth session on phased and multi-tier data center design – the key to data center operational flexibility and efficiency. A modular, phased build-out data center design optimizes an organization’s capital expenditure and improves efficiency. This design approach also allows data center owners and operators to create multi-Tier facilities to match business needs.
9. 2011 Green Enterprise IT Award Winner Case Studies: The Green Enterprise IT (GEIT) Awards are the Uptime Institute’s highest honor. Uptime Institute grants these Awards to projects, ideas, and products that significantly improve energy productivity and resource use in IT. Winners will be presenting throughout the conference on their achievements.
10. Too many topics to list: Matt Stansberry, Uptime Institute Director of Content and Publications (that’s me) will present results of Uptime’s inaugural data center industry survey. Don Beaty will present the latest ASHRAE Thermal Guidelines. AOL’s Mike Manos is presenting a Cloud Computing survival guide. John Stanley is presenting research on Carbon Management in the data center. You can’t miss this.
